Removing The Escutcheon
Our aim is to shed a little further light and insight on what we believe are key topics currently within our industry, and in doing so improve the current standard of electrical work being completed across the board. So who are we?
Upon starting Corsence, we made a conscious decision to focus on our niche skill set which would not only set our company apart but also provide a valuable service to others. Our team specializes in providing engineering and consultancy advice, as well as routine maintenance and inspections on existing electrical infrastructure. In particular, we focus on the heart and veins of the electrical installation the Main Switchboards, Distribution Boards, Meter Panels and Power Factor Correction Units. Although Corsence has been operating for just over a year our team has over 10 years’ experience within this field alone.
Since inception, we have successfully completed over 1000 switchboard audits and inspections using our in house proforma and software. These have ranged from 3000A Main Switchboards to the 100A Tenant Distribution Board and everything in between. Each audit and condition/compliance inspection critically analyses the switchboards current working condition, risks present (particularly electrical and fire)and its compliance with current Australian Standards and State Service Rules.
Throughout our many escutcheon removals we have unfortunately seen a large amount of inconsistency across installs. It may be where the switchboard supplied (usually by a switchboard manufacturer) is safe and compliant when leaving the factory, but once on site and installed various compliance issues that should be avoided exist. Another common scenario is the switchboard manufacturer and site contractor have performed an immaculate install, only a few months down the track john smith has decided to create an abstract piece of art by throwing 100 off cuts of 2.5mm cable at the distribution board chassis (As Built drawings why bother!).
Our purpose is not to create another "dodgy electrical" site to name and shame. Lets be honest though no one wants to remove a cover or escutcheon only to find that because of a lack of knowledge or complacency it may have been their last. We hope in highlighting such issues we will improve the understanding of such standards and service rules therefore improving the standard of switchboard installations throughout Australia.
